Why the Children?

   Low Self Esteem

Research increasingly indicates that those children who succeed, despite often enormous personal, economic, or societal obstacles, do so because of the presence of caring, committed adults who believe in, encourage and respect them. Mentoring is a very special process that allows the children to learn in a supportive environment. We must take responsibility and address issues early in the developmental process because the news today proves that we don't have a healthy society with our younger generation. We need to build their self esteem.

   Violence & Bullying

There has been an increase in violence and hate crimes involving children in our schools and on our streets. Poor and minority youth are increasingly isolated from the consistent nurturing and guidance of adults that's needed in developmental years. Children are not familiar with methods of conflict resolution, and need to adopt positive strategies. If we can start their learning process sooner in life, better habits are formed and can be used in times of need.

   Cultural Diversity

With a lack of understanding of people different from ourselves, it's easier and more common to develop feelings of 'hate'. Ignorance of different races and beliefs needs to be changed. Education will not only bring a better acceptance of other cultures, yet give us more pride in our own. It's important to acknowledge role models from all parts of the world, to develop respect for cultures and lifestyles different from our own.
